Does anybody know if red-bellied pacus exhibit the same breeding technique as red-bellied piranhas?

I've bred piranhas many times and they are very careful about clearing the nest site, laying the eggs and defending the area. But what about pacus?

The only information about breeding Pacus that I have found after an exhaustive internet search is that they don't reach sexual maturity until the 3rd and 4th years, they lay eggs on some type of substrate, but leave the nest after they spawn.

However, my question is this:

Do Pacus careful clean a nest site and lay the eggs in one spot like piranhas, or do they just randomly throw them everywhere and then leave the site?

I would appreciate any information from hobbyist experience, aquaculture experience or any other literature-based information.

Thanks. :)

Well i believe they just threw egg around in the tank just like silver dollars. However no one have tried to bred pacus as they have hard time to upgrade the tank sizes for fullgrown pacus.

There was video of Pacu breeding long time ago.....You see I can remeber this, but not exactly how they did it....I too bred Pygos, I am intrested in the Pacu breeding way......Because of their size and somewhat finicky silver dollar attitude sometimes, possibly EGG-SCATTER??????

The breeders I know use hormones to induce Pacu to breed. They breed them in very large earthen ponds. (no plants)

Some female fish species will expell eggs without being fertalized... that may be what was observed at the public aquarium.
