I have a pair of Taeniacara candidi that I really want to breed and they're ready. The thing is the female is the boss in this setup and doesn't let the male get close to her for a long period without chasing him off. He looks tired and is missing a little chunk of his tail fin. What do I do to calm them down and hopefully induce them to breed. The water is soft, could be softer. I introduced a group of ember tetras to dispel aggression, and I'm going to add a mated pair of Laetacara curviceps to the mix as well. Any recommendations?

try changing the set up so they look for new terrotories. maybe the male will be dominant after this. or yu could take the female out, so the male can take charge then add the female back in so the male will dominate her :P

Taking the female out and adding the male and then adding her works, re-arranging things also helps...If both of these fail, which it did for my Rams, I added a "perceived threat" which was a 7 inch senegal bichir, didn't pose any real harm to them, but was still pretty big, so they paired for defense, and then later spawned, goodluck!
