Breeding Vieja synspilum

They will breed relatively small. As such, a breeding pair of fish that start very young will not attain the same size as a similar fish NOT breeding. I believe it's because the energy normally directed to growing is diverted to the breeding. I have noted this with several species of fish where I have a group of the same age, and two will breed. Invariably the "third wheel" in the group will usually grow to a larger size. I've seen it in Parachromis, Amphilophus and Paratheraps/Vieja species.

How big is the fish you are trying to sex? Do you have a photo?
