Just curious of those who are serious fish keepers prefer not to get into breeding and prefer just to keep nicer fish. I currently trying to raise ebjd but am second guessing myself and just thinking I could keep some nice fish instead of trying to be a breeder.

Just me personaly in my bigger tanks i like to get my fish small and grow them out. Saves me money and i like to see them grow and develop

I personally don't have the time, patience or tank space to devote to breeding anything. I prefer my angry little community fish. I would love to breed blackbelts but that would take all the current tanks I have running to do properly

Thanks Crazy Mike I have experiened that breeding EBJD it takes a lot of time and tank space. Right now I have 5 or 6 tanks just dedicated to them. Oh and fixing to set another up for them also. Just wondering if its worth the trouble breeding them. May enjoy better cutting back a couple tanks and having different fish. Right now upstairs in my great room I have a 58 salt, 46 angelfish tank, 25 dwqarf african tank. Downstairs in my unfinished basement I have a 55 with a blue male and BG female (thats not bred in 3 months) a 55 with lanke tang comprescips. A 125 growing out some BGJD petitioned with my male BGJD, a 40 breeder with BGJD and 80 fry (that I feed 4 or 5 times a day) a 50 tall with 5 1 inch EBJD a 10 gallon Im fixing to put my EBJD babies in (only about 15 of them) a 75 Ive not set up yet to put my breeding pair of BGJD and also a 30 long that I emptied yesterday but may put the green baby EBJD in.

My rule of thumb is to breed small fish and keep non-breeding, male only big fish. It's easier to find room to accommodate extra small fish or sell them in auction than big fish, not to mention that breeding small fish won't terrorize tankmates as much as big fish.

I can't imagine keeping anything I did not plan to breed. But I keep mostly smaller fish.
