I want to add a little more variety to my herps diet and was wondering if anyone knew if breeding waxworms was easy or not. Do you breed them the same way as mealworms? If not how do you breed them?

get dubai roaches!

they are so easy to maintain and they breed real well. im acctually about to set up a second tank to start another colony.

no smell and they dont climb.

im not sure on breeding waxworms. i had read an article somewhere and it seemed rather easy if i recall correctly

From my understanding, wax worms are collected from bee hives by bee keepers. They are the larvae of a type of moth.

Yes they are moth larvae and from what I understand a big project/pain to breed .

I have had wax worm kept at room temp pupate thats why everyone keeps them in frig

Like Mike D said roaches are the way to go they blow wax worms away protein/calcium wise .

I have been working on the dubai just trying to find some space for them. I know the waxworms arent near as nutritous I just want to give everyone as big of a variety as possible. And since they sound too time consuming I guess I will just buy them everyonce in awhile. How big of an enclosure to the dubai need?

i keep mine in a 10 gallon tank with a heat pad underneath. put some egg crate in there and you are good to go. once they get going they dont want to stop lol.
i just set up another 10 gallon tank with a male and a few females in it to get a jump on a second colony.
i also started a small cricket breeding colony for the time being as well.

And I have the crickets, mealworms, ghost shrimp, and guppies breeding just wanted something else and it is looking like the dubai are going to be the winners.
