All I know is that it is said to be impossible to do at home.
They need to dig deep tunnels in wet sand to breed. I'm pretty sure that the little crabs mature at sea or in brackish water. Baby crabs are not just smaller versions of big crabs, but go through a few stages to mature and are almost microscopic when hatched.
