I was wondering if anyone else has bred Brichardi. I have stocked a 20 gallon with 5 Brichardi now. I am planning on keeping them as the only fish in there in hopes of breeding them. Anyone have ideas or suggestions?

My water param. are
pH= 8.2
GH= 12 degrees
Temp= 78 Degrees

Lots of rocks and caves.

Thanks,
Shecky

They will breed pretty easily once you have a pair. Odds are you will end up with a pair from 5 fish. Unfortunately, once they have paired off, a 20 gallon will not suffice for long as subsequent broods will appear. The cool thing about these fish is the parents will not drive off previous spawns once new ones arrive. so you will have a colony of brichardi of all different sizes. Its a cool sight to see so many all at different sizes. They will eventually take over a tank if other fish are involved, unless you thin out the population frequently.

Good luck with these guys. Its been awhile since I've kept them, but they still have a place in my heart, but not now in my tanks. They were my first tanganyikan cichlids along with calvus, and they remain some of my favorite cichlids. ;)
