What do i need to do to sanitise red sidewalk bricks? they will be perfect for the turtles. I am thinking all i need to do is was them with soap and water well, and then boil them. Am i right?

I'd just scrub them with a little bleach and water and let them soak for an hour or so. Then rinse and soak again with clean water with some tap water conditioner.

But I can't imagine boiling would hurt.

I think thats a bit overkill when i put in new rockwork i just hose it off put them in a smaller tank for a couple days to see if it stains the water and somtimes i add a test fish just to make sure i got a pair of devils so i always got some fry hanging around. If the ornaments need anymore cleaning than just a hose down i usualy won't consider them for aquarium use.

they got crap stained on them, a thin layer of tar. stuff like that

I use a big cinder block in my turtles enclosure, I just rinsed it with water and let it soak overnight.

Personally I would be a lil nervous about the tar and would defenitely wanna get that off (at work when I get tar on my boot it usually is about 2 weeks till it eats thru). I would figure scrubbing it off with the bleach method. Really really good scrubbing.

Yeah def. let it soak. I would do the bleach thing with a really really good rinse.
