a friend of mine has a creek behind his house with literally thousands of bricks in the water and along the shore... they have been there for at least 10 years (from what i know) and the water is clear and fast moving... i was wondering if i could add some of these to the new 55 gallon im getting ( if i clean them of course).... im not sure how it will look, possibly stupid, but i guess its worth a shot.. my only concern here is wether they will leach something into the tank water or compromise my water chemistry in some way, any advice would be appreciated thanks!

i worked in concrete for 4 years and know that poured foundations and driveways dont fully cure for a few years. there are chemicals that do leach, but in the case of a brick...i doubt youll have that problem. I would, however, advise against the idea. you dont know what kind of water runoff you are dealing with, bacteria etc etc etc.
plus its only a 55 gal. i have brick size rocks in my 150 gallon and they take up alot of room. see?

they would look unnatural and stupid (no offense). if you are by a creek why not take the rocks there instead

hahaa none taken, i agree with you i think they probably would look crappy it was just a thought, maybe theres some substrate/background combo that would make it look presentable... i guess i could always just get some of the flat creek rocks

I've always heard that bricks will potentially leach chemicals... and I do know they use some nasty chemicals to make bricks...

But since the ones you are considering have been submerged in water for 10+ years I would imagine that whatever could leach out has already leached out...

As far as how they would look... They're free, so try it and see if you like it...

Go sand and creek rock. I went playsand and lake rock. I'd recommend pool sand unless you wanted to spend time rinsing play sand over and over again.
