Hi,

I am currently raising a batch of approx. 100 baby convicts. They are now almost 3/4".

I've noticed 2 or 3 with florescent orange spots on the flanks. Is this common? Will they keep this coloration as adults?

Are they valuable--should I breed them back to each other and try and isolate this trait? I've found that convicts have almost no resale value whatsoever, so I doubt they are valuable--but since I've never seen this before I figured I'd ask.

These are normal (not white) convicts.

Sorry for my ignorance but is the "flank" the side belly area?

Females usually have orange on their belly.

The mother of these fish looked like this...but these juveniles I'm describing have bright/fluorescent orange spots, not a shaded belly like this one. However they will probably lose these spots and get the orange shaded belly when they get older. I just asked because the spots really stand out. Unfortunately, they are small and don't stand still long enough to photograph.

That being said, I would agree with above, those are just females.
