I went to the lfs today and saw some really nice oscars, they looked like albinos with bright red sides. I was wondering if this is natural? I wanted to get one but i wasn't sure if that was their true color or if they were dyed. Does anyone have bright red albino oscars??

I have heard of "ruby red" oscars, but I am not certain if they are dyed or not. I know "blue berry" oscars are dyed blue, so It is not totally out of the imagination that some idiot would dye oscars red, but who knows. It could be selective breeding or it could be the same guy behind "Tattoo" Mollies. Someone on here will have better info for ya Fishy

If they were dyed or injected with hormones would it affect them negatively later on in life?

Yes and most likely. Dyed fish typically lose their color after 6 months or so. Hormone injected fish usually have washed out colors as adults. Both dying and hormones have been blamed for health problems and immune deficiancies. although I am not sure if there is any conclusive findings. And IMO dying and Tattoing are lame....

I think the the guy/gal at the LFS was taking you for a sap bro. All the info I have come across points to dyes and hormones. On top of that life expectancy in "blueberry" is much decreased:(

Its not great but its not bad either. If you find one you really like or seems to have better colors buy it, as long as you can accomadate, 55 is bare min, but I really think 75 should be.
haha im actually really picky with my O's, good luck, thier great fish.
