brisle worms friend or foe

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
make sure they are bristle, as the similar fireworm=death to corals and most any thing else they can catch. (though from another post you have a pred tank? if so they will not get big enough to be a threat to ur preds)

:iagree:

fireworms have a considerably different effect on your tank from your run of the mill polychaete
i'd look into the differences and make sure it isn't one of them

can you notice big black mandible on one end of him?

I just set up my first reef tank over Christmas so I am a rookie in this area but I have been experiencing bristleworms. The tank is a 40 breeder so a bit small and I have been removing these creatures with tweezers when I find them b/c at first I feared some kind of infestation. At first I just randomly spotted a total of about 3-4; probably harmless b/c of their small size. Last night with lights out I spotted what at first looked like the arm of a huge brittle or serpent star but turned out to be a 4 inch bristleworm. Growdy man. I had to get it out of there. The spines on its sides were enormous! If these guys are scavengers, should I leave one or two in there, IF anymore are spotted? Thanks.

Its all a question of quantity. Yes they can be harmful if numerous. Avoid over feeding and keep an eye on them. make sure its not a fire worm.
