A few days ago I notice that my BN pleco's eyes were kind of bulging, almost like she has popeye. She has been eating well and is still very active so I didn't think much of it. Well today after completeing a waterchange I noticed she has now developed a "bubble" for lack of a better term on her side inbetween her fins. It is almost transparent and looks like a membrane. Does anyone know what this is? What I can do to treat it? And if I can save her. She is a beautiful female and I was looking forward to trying to pair her with a male iI aquired in the future for breeding.

Help please!

I lucked out and was actually able to get a pic.

You can actually see two of the growth in the reflection on the glass. One under each fin...but the one on the right of the picture with the arrow is significantly bigger than the one on the left.

I also have removed her from the main tank and she is now in a 10 g hospital tank with 2 TBSP of aquarium salt awaiting the recommended treatment.

Any advice now that I have posted pic's of her?

Wow, those are quite big. I've never seen anything like that. I'm at a loss for treatment. I thought it would be a small bump/laceration.

The only other advice I have would be to post your question (or a link to your question) on planetcatfish.com, plecofanatics.com, and plecoworld.org. Maybe someone on one of those forums has seen something like this. Sorry I can't be any more help.

When I checked on the BN this morning, I think I see improvement. The large "bubble" is now gone, but has left what looks to be a sore about the same size as the small one. I will just continue to treat with salt unless it's condition begins to worsen again.

Anyone have any other suggestions for treatment?

Just to update. I ended up losing the pleco several weeks after my last post. She survived the first round of treatment, but not the second. Still have no idea what she had.

Derfinately check with someone on planetcatfish and post here if you could. I had plecos for years and never seen anything close to that.
