I have a geophagus tank with a couple severums and a male and a female bristlenose pleco. When vacuuming the tank one day i accidentally sucked up a few fry that i had no idea existed. I put them back in the cave that the dad spends most his time in. Now i have noticed a bunch that hang out right at the top of the water all off the magnetic glass scrubber, i counted about 15. So my question is would a 5 gallon be a big enough grow out tank for the fry until they are big enough to sell, or survive in my tank? I notice that the occasional straggler does get picked off by the severums in the big tank.

I think it would be difficult to maintain water quality in a tank that small especially with plecos. They are pooping machines even at that small size. You will be doing a lot of water changes.

Thanks for reply.. yeah i just don't have any space at the moment to set up my 29 or 55.. looks like there is going to be more fry on the way very shortly and i doubt they will survive with the geo's and couple severums. Maybe i will just rehome breeding pair (if i can catch them). I bought them from two different local breeders when they were too small to sex.. one was a longfin the other a regular, what are the chances they would grow up to be male/female and breed. 5g is all i could set up at the moment, i do agree that it would be hard to keep appropriate water quality though, just wishful thinking i suppose.
