Does anyone have knowledge with the bristlenose plecosomus? I believe they may out at about 6 inches. I'm just not sure how they would be with ca/sa cichlids. Will they survive? Are they tough little guys? I tried putting a regular pleco in and after about 2 weeks he was killed. Thanks in advance.

Your bluntnose pleco should be ok since it is one of the more aggressive Plecos. I wouldn't chance it with the following though; Wolf Cichlid, maybe Festae, maybe Oscar, and Maybe Green Terror

IME plecos and cichlids are a crapshoot ....the pleco will be "ok"for as long as ALL the cichlids are ok with it....

depends on the cichlid i had a bristlenose with my midas and ended up giving him away, the midas used to drag him out of his cave by his dorsal fin, they are tough little fella's top out at about 6" just depends on the temperament of the other fish, i've had cichlids that just ignore them and others that try to kill them.

If you're talking about ancistrus plecos, I wouldn't put them in with anything too large or aggressive. Some of my SAs picked them off as they found them. My psittacus juveniles killed all my 4" bristlenose in my 150 and the ones I kept with my Mesonauta mysteriously disappeared, too. I keep dwarf bristlenose with discus and dwarf cichlids with great results. They also make great clean-up crews in fry tanks. They will eat all the slime and dead brine off the tank bottom and glass so that all I have to do is water changes, no wipe-downs.

My bristlenose have been fine with all of my CA/SA Cichlids. Just remember that fish like Dovii, Jags and Oscars will try to fit anything in their mouths.

I have 4 bristlenose plecos with a tank filled with parrots, severums, firemouths, loaches and numerous featherfin catfish, never had a problem with any of them. They are in a 125 with 2 large pieces of driftwood with plenty hiding places

I have mine with lots of new world cichlids, a birchir and some blood parrots and a striped pecock eal... about 2.5 inches(same size as the cichlids) it dosn't get attacked... it is pretty aggressive for a pleco, it cheases my cichlids! I would not attemt this with larger cichlids.... the biggest fishes in my tank will be my green terror, jack dempsey and birchir when they are full grown and I would not attemt it with a cichlid any bigger unless it is a very peaceful cichlid... cichlids like oscars have very big mouths and are thick bodied and just huge! i think oscars have a diffrent jaw structure and they have HUGE mouths... What cichlids? tank size?...
