If anyone saw my post about 6 weeks ago they will know I have already had a surprise batch of bristenose fry. So far in a small tank they have all survived and after trying to count seems to be about 80 of them.

Well today when cleaning my 400 litre tank I moved a log and to my surprise saw a batch of large bright orange eggs. So it seems now my BN pair are happy and are will regularly spawn for me.

Here is a picture of how my first batch are doing and another of the new eggs (which after disturbing them are in a nursery with some bubbles to keep the water moving).

Congrats!

Does anyone know how I can tell if they are fertile or not? I have never seen the eggs before so a bit clueless. The last batch I found when they were already hatched and free swimming.
I tried looking around on the web but I have read mixed things about the colour eg some saying the orange means they are fertile.. others saying no they are laid that colour.

I am thinking maybe my timing was bad and when I found the eggs they had just been laid and not fertilized yet.

I've been lucky with mine, they've all be fertile. I just usually put them back in the cave and the male took care of the rest.

If you are shipping the babies, please pm me.

They were ferile in the end, after a few days you could actually see a tiny white plec growing on the yolk...
Then... gutted... I went to check one morning and guess what.. a convict had leapt out the water and into the floating fry saver and gobbled the lot. The silly thing just couldn't get back out again. Serves me right for leaving in floating in his tank!

On the plus side my first batch are coming on really well, none have died and soon they will be big enough to go to my lfs.
