Ive got 5 smallish albino longfin bristlenoses in a 35 gal with some of my J. Transcriptus. Theyve been munching away on the algae on the front pane of glass (and only there oddly) but have been ignoring the zucchini I threw in two nights ago. Ive got it weighed down to the bottom so there's definetely no problems getting at it. Any advice for enticing my plecos? I read the nutrition thread and it seems that the Algae theyve been eating isnt enough.

Did you blanch the zucchini? They usually prefer the zucchini to be soft already. It would take a few days for the zucchini to get soft on it's own in the water. Most people suggest microwaving the zucchini with some water for 30s. I did this and they devoured the zucchini. I placed it under the driftwood to keep it in place. When I got back from work it was way at the back with just the outer ring left. :D

my BN only really likes to eat wood :s I left zuchinni in and other veggies over night and they havn't been touched he just sits on top of driftwood all day

soak the zucc in garlic essense over night. its the only way my watermelon pleco eats it

Well the BNs found the zucchini lol and now the area around it is a battlezone.. out of the frying pan and into the fire :p.

P.S. Is it normal for them to eat the skin? I imagine the skin is more nutritious if anything but was curious about it since mine seem to be indiscriminate.

I've got several different varieties of plecos and breed long fin ancistrus. The older plecos eat the skin and everything. The juveniles don't eat all the skin and in some cases don't eat the seeds. I've tried yellow squash and Mexican squash but they seem to like zucchini and spinich best. They don't always eat the stems of the spinich.

Well as long as there's nothing wrong with them eating the skin I'm glad they enjoy it. Four of them were clustered around tonight's zucchini as opposed to 2 the last time so it's been noticed. I was told the seeds could be bad if they ate them so I tried to cut them out as much as possible, is that really neccessary? Seems silly to me since no one would be there to cut the seeds out of whatever plecos eat in the wild since according to the same people they eat these fruits/veggies in the wild. It seemed like most of the meaty part was gone once I cut out the seeds, so much so that I stuffed the big holes with fresh algae as an added snack lol.. dont think they touched the algae yet but here's to hoping.
