hi there everyone, i was just wandering if there was any types of british wood that you could use in discus or apistogramma tanks that would not damage the fish in any way, i know that oak leaves can be used to lower the tanks Ph but just wawndering if it would work the same for the actual branches aswel?
obviously i would strip the bark of so it would only be the inside middle bit.

thanks matt

im afraid i cant help, but i was thinking the same thing a while ago. so good question and might steal some advice thats given if thats cool

ive just heard from somebody on another forum that beech and oak is ok as he has used both in his tanks, ive just gone and got a big piece for my 8ft tank and am just about to start de-barking it.
if you go on practical fishkeeping then i have got the answer from there in the sub catagory cichlids

It's generally considered that most hardwoods are fine, and softwoods are not. The one I would avoid (though people have used it) is cedar ... anything used to as a poison and kill things, I would avoid.

It's cheap enough to buy driftwood if you hunt around, I've never used wood I've found in a tank. Recommendations would be to boil it for a long time

yeah boil the wood or soak it in a big bucket for a long time to avoid that brown colour that wood leaches out.
