Broke my glass lid:(

Was all excited and stoked today because I got myself a new XXL show style piece of driftwood for my 450g. Everything was going smoothly but damn... I broke my glass lid trying to pull a large piece of driftwood out myself and replace it with the new bigger one...That's what I get for trying to do things myself...Luckily it was only the opening lid part and I had some leftover densed styrofoam and temporarly enclosed the opening and taped it down tightly until I get a new lid.


Encountered a small problem to pull out this piece of driftwood...

and replaced it with this one.

I steped on mine while doing a water change used cling wrap till i replaced it lol

Are you gonna buy a new lid from the LFS? I've always measured the tank and gone to a glass shop to make lids. I have a 100g and the LFS wanted $60 for a lid, but I went to a glass shop and got one made for $10.

Awesome driftwood and tank ! Sorry about the lid. I popped one a while back while working on tightening up any gaps along the back edge Took a week for the replacement all the while I had a crappy piece of acrylic covering that side.

I called my LFS for a replacement and they wanted 30 bux for 1 piece of glass that measured 47" x 8" and 5mm thickness...I was shocked and called a glass shop and they are only charging me 12 bux. LFS's charge an arm and leg for replacement parts...

When I brought home my 2nd 75g, I was sliding it across the carpet into my room, and I placed the lids on the ground before I went to get the tank, stepped on both.

But got new ones for free.

Ouch, that must of sucked. But it was nice of your LFS to replace them for free

sucks you broke the glass lid, and all the other people here who's sharing the same story, i love all your fish though! that rtc is way too nice i wonder how many fish he ate in your tank lol

oh and i broke my glass lid cause i left the light on for few weeks straight, and the canopy was not letting any heat going through, so the glass got split in half because the intense heat given off by the light!
