broke red belly dace

I don't know what happened but my dace looks like he broke his tail or broke the flesh open. I'm not sure what to do. I don't know what happened to him. I was ice fishing this winter and decided to keep a minnow. He was kept in a tank alone for a week and then I added him to my 90G and he has been there for almost two months. What do I do about his injury? Do you think it will heal on it's own. This is day two.. and he is not very active but still swimming. He did not eat yesterday or today.

oh yes. and my temp is 78. there is no nitrite, nitrate or ammon in the water. water changes are done once a week about 30 -40 %. the tank is a 90G. there is a XP3, and bio 400 and bio 200 on the tank. There are 7 BP two Plecos one sword tail and four mollies with him. The BP are not agressive towards any smaller fish in the tank.. Quite frankley my BP are lazy and do not chase anything excpet eachother.
 
well, there became a huge hole at his injury spot and he passed away today. I really like that minnow he will be missed. I named him Bait.
