Broken air conditioner almost killed my fish

So I moved back into my parent’s house a week ago. Their air conditioner just broke in time for summer. Yesterday night I notice that my goldfish are breathing VERY hard and so are the rosy red minnows with them. I quickly go through a gauntlet of ideas as to why they would be so stressed out, finally I put a thermometer in and it was 82 degrees in the tank. So I figured that the extra heat had decreased the Oxygen levels in the tank leading to their gasping and stress. So long story short, I Frankensteined a pump from another tank and they settled down a bit. Thankfully it rained today and cooled off. So the broken air conditioner and the unseasonably hot weather almost killed my goldies.

Drop a few ice cubes in the tank every once in a while, and add some water conditioner if you do. I kept some natives alive this way during hot spells before i got AC.

ya i have that prob out here in the desert and the the ac suck bc the military baught it so its the lowest bidder, so ya i just do a water change to bring down the temp ar waht i did was i had 2 1gal milf jugs full of water in the freezer then i just put them in the tank tell temp wentt to where i wanted it. hey it works and it better that paying a kidney for a chiller.

7lbs of ice would decrease that temp so fast.. i wouldnt be suprised if even goldfish went into shock from that

heres an idea: feed the goldfish and minnows to a real fish before they die and go to waste!
