Hey guys.
I have such a strange problem.
I own 2 lepisosteus oculatus, spotted gars.
Both have a broken back, or paralyzed behind part of there body.
No idea what the cause is!

I got home a month ago, and 1 was lying on the ground,
I expected it to die but he is swimming and eeting again.

a month later nmbr 2 has the same problem!
no idea why!

Water quality is fine! temp is 28 iso 24 degrees celcius though because of
the tankmates, but i am positive everybody keep there gars warmer dan 24 celcius.

Tankmates are RTG Aro, which shows no aggresion to the gars at all!
2 stingrays... could me stung by them but is highly unlikely!
3 dat's, couldnt be the prob.
and a bichir...

Any idea guys? because im clueless..

check the vid.
Cheers,

Man, that one that is on the surface looks to be in pretty bad shape. I know I have heard about Gar that have this happen to them and in a few cases they heal themselves. Not sure what to tell you to do here since they are swimming and eating OK. I would just keep stress low and ride it out. Some of the others here may have better advise. Good luck and thanks for the videos.

If they are still swimming and eating, then they will likely survive, although maybe not as long as a perfectly healthy gar.

They probably broke their backs running into the sides of the tank after being spooked. This could be from just about anything, but its possible either the arowana or the dats are startling the gars when they go after food, which then results in the gars hitting the sides of the tank.

Hopefully they continue to do well for you and no further problems arise. Good luck with them.
