Hello, I'm new to the forum so I hope I'm putting the post in the right place. I have a pair of young Jaguar cichlids, around 4-5". I came home today to find my females right side fin busted and mostly missing. It looks like the male came up behind her, bit her fin, and pushed it forwards, it seems to be jammed that way. I separated the two and everyone seems happy now. She doesn't have any issue swimming or eating and it looks like she doesn't even notice it. My question is: Will it heal on its own over time? If not, is it likely that she be able to do a sufficient job of fanning eggs and taking care of babies in the future? Thanks in advance for any tips/advice.

Here are some pics

It should heal. Depending on the extent of the damage weather or not it will look normal only time will tell. You may have to use a divider in the tank to keep them seperated, if he continues to go after her. He could possibily kill her watch them closly for aggression and be ready to seperate them.

Agree with Tom.
It often depends on how much of the ray is gone.
I don't expect the caudal on the below Paratilapia to ever grow back, but it's still a great fish, and will live normally.

Thanks guys, appreciate the advice. It was a rookie mistake on my part not separating them after breeding. I'll know for next time. Live and learn I guess.

UPDATE: The little jags fin is back! I thought it was bit off, bit it appears that it was just pushed forward and scrunched up. She is as healthy as ever. Again thanks for the responses fellas.
