Iv heard stray voltage can cause HITH.
nope. another one of those HITH myths out there..
HITH is supposedly caused by a bacteria called hexamita. but even this has not been proven conclusively. years ago, a reasearcher found this bacteria in the HITH pits on the head of a cichlid and concluded that it was the cause. but from what I have read, this has been disputed since then.
personally, I don't think they know for certain what is the causative agent behind HITH.
I do know nothing that prevents it, thats for sure.
clean water, lack of carbon, treating with metrodiazole, varied diet etc.
none of that actually works. it sounds great on paper, but in practice it is ineffective. many south americans get it anyway..
some of my fish friends believe there may be a genetic component to the disease, but again, this is just speculation..
