ok i got an awsome deal just now i got a 220 gallon tank an stand for 150 bucks. but the plastic trim braces are broke. i know that the plastic is mainly for looks but i feel safer with some sort of braceing on it. i tried to find some new trim online but sofar no luck. so if i euro brace it with some glass on the top how should i go about doing this.like how wide should my braces be an how thick should the glass be.

Cross bracing is absolutely neccessary. It should be the thickness of the existing glass. As far width, bracing should be square. What is the depth and length of the tank? I.e., if the the tank is 2' x 2' you dont need bracing, if it is 4' x 2' you need one center bar brace. A 6' x 2' tank needs either two center bar braces 2' apart or a 2' wide peice of glass. This will give you extreamly strong bracing.

i was even thinking about maybe customize the tank an in stead of it being 2ft wide i was wondering if i could lay it on its back an close the top in an make it 30inches wide instead of 2ft. would this be safe.
