I bought another ropefish the other day and he seems to have a broken back? He doesn't ever straighten out and swims erratically. No method to his motion. He also always has his head in a ? shape never straightening out.

Could his back possibly be broke? Any suggestions on what to do? Can't get a picture of it cause he just lays in the plants whch doesn't look odd. He does at times "stand" on the bottom of the tank and hold his head up in a ? from time to time tho.

I don't think ropefish would have broken back. By the way, they never really straighten out. They swim in a zig-zag manner like a snake.

Some pictures may help though

I agree with Spirit, I've never seen my Rope swim straight always in a curved motion like a snake.
*Pics please!*

Well pics wouldn't do nothing. He swims erratically and sometimes he's swimming upside down with his belly up. Even laid on the bottom of the tank on his back last night thought he died. He eats just fine. I know they don't swim straight it's snakelike but he does it fast jumpy motion unlike the other rope I have. I'll snap a pic if its something I find "odd" tho.

Oh dear something is definitely wrong with him, what are his tank mates and your water stats, also is that rapid breathing on him?

EDIT: Was he crushed or transport in a small bag or something of that nature?

Yes he's rapidly breathing. Tank mates
Ropefish x1
Clown loach x5
Sen Bichir x 1
African Leaf Fish x1
ABK x1

All are really small. I haven't tested the water because the other rope is perfectly fine as well as all other fish.

Any ideas fellow poly fans.

Water para?

Of course a rope fish straightens out when it wants to.... Just like a snake straiten outs when it wants.... Sillies... :screwy:

Only other time Ive seen fish do that was a while ago... Some other guy posted on here some type of Bichir that banged his head real hard on the glass top. Don't remember if it lived though...

Maybe he did the same....
