broken thermometer

by pbass attack my thermometer from time to time ... no big deal ...

UNTIL today i notice the bottom tip is not red (as usual)
i pulled it out to find the bottom chipped and broken

has anyone had this happen? how bad is it?
i think the red substance is more dense and therefore didnt escape out into the tank (or not much at least) and the fish seem fine???
i dont know exactly how long its been ... ???

Most thermometers use alcohol, which is definitely not good in the tank. It is a small amount, but do lots of water changes and I'm sure you'll be fine.

my pacu's have broken two already. no ill effects so far.

ive learned to not keep them in there anymore
