Emulate conditions in the spring time..more light, warmer water. Feed small live foods, like daphnia, black worms, brine shrimp etc. The male will build a nest out of vegetation (we use java moss and duckweed) and a sticky thread-like substance that he makes in his kidneys. He'll turn black and try to lure and attract females into his nest. If a female likes the nest, she'll lay her eggs in the nest. The male will guard the eggs, pretty furiously. The eggs will take a few weeks to hatch.

Congrats on your fore into the world of sticklebacks. You'll love them, they're great fish to watch. They're related to seahorses...which I find interesting.

yep related to sea horses.

Most all wild caught specimens will have to have live foods.

i keep mine in a unheated 20g with alot of javamoss and some drift wood.

I feed live brine shrimp and guppie fry.

they are a awesome little predator. I love watching there bodies wind up in the S shape when they are about to attack a fry.

Allmost forgot--- they must have a good top on there tank becuase they are extreme jumpers. I have found a few of mine in a 55g tank that is below there 20. And i have standard hood with light strip. The only open space is beside the filter. Stickle backs think they can fly.

You'll find them to be aggressive for their size. They are fin nippers. I fed mine bloodworms.
