just a thought out of the blue for me here but what is the minimum tank size you would suggest for a small group of brook trout
I have acess to some fingerlings and was wondering how plausable keeping them as pets(maybe live food for me) would be
 
You would need a pretty good size tank, say a 125 or larger. Plus you'd need a chiller. Those are cold water fish.
 
Oh jeez, brooks? In wild streams and smallish lakes they stay small but if fed well with regular water changes, they can grow to enormous sizes. I'd say at LEAST a 400 for two or three. No way a 125 would do, at least not for long. They're very cold water fish, so you'll need a powerful chiller and lots of current - they demand very well oxygenated water.
Where are your fingerlings coming from? They should be from a genetically isolated population that stays small for your best bet at keeping them in a reasonably sized tank. See why:
