I was just curious if anyone knows about how long it has been since Aquaclears were made from brown plastic instead of their current color? I just got an AC 200 with a 10 gallon Metaframe from a thrift store. It still works great other than a slight rattle, but it looks pretty old.

Any idea how old an amber one would be though? I'm just curious

google it.

I have a green transulent aqua clear 150 from 1985 and it is the green color. I know it is that old becuase my daughter was born that year and that tank was set up in a hall going to her room. I never remember the amber color but that doesn't mean much.

Google didn't help much, but I did figure out that the first ACs were named after their liter per hour rating (so this would have been called something like "AC 800"), then they were changed to gph like this AC 200, and then to their tank size rating so this size is now called AC 50. I knew of that last switch cause it was fairly recent. I think it's pretty cool that they still make these filters pretty much exactly the same way they did 30+ years ago and they are still considered one of the top HOBs
