Hey guys,

So about a month ago I converted my salt setup back to freshwater and broke it all down and cleaned everything with a bleach solution. the main tank is 100 gallons and sump is a 20 gallon. I have a fx5 running in the sump that i pulled from an established tank to help with cycling. tank has been doing great but there seems to be a build up of brown algae in the sump and i dont now whats causing it. Nitrates and nitrites are at zero and have been since i started the new tank. Anyone have suggestions or what i should check. The reason i switched the tanks is i just added a baby fahaka to the tank.

Thanks

Brown algae diatoms usually due to excess silicates. http://www.petplace.com/article/fish/general/water-care/how-to-fight-those-darn-diatoms-algae

Welcome to MFK! Is the sump always that bright with light, if so I would suggest shading the light from it and see if that will help.

This isn't necessarily the reason, but your tank is likely not cycled with nitrate of 0.
