brown algae in tank

My tank was recently cycled and broke out in algae pretty good. my ammonia and nitrites are zero. my test kit leaks when i shake it to test nitrates so i dont really know that. i know it is common in new tanks. My substrate is pool filter sand. i have some fish in there now so keep that in mind when helping with solutions. thanks guys.

could be diatoms do a web search on them

from what I've been told brown algea will disappear on it's own it usally shows up in new tanks. some water changes and not feeding to much will help getting rid of it. 3 out of my 5 tanks had the brown algea when I first set them up but it soon disappeared.
