My 55gal SW has been running for a few weeks now. i have 45lbs of LR and about 50-60lbs of sand 1.5-2". a ton of brown algae has grown in the past few days, mainly on the LR and sand. its not growing on the sides of the tank. is there anything i can do other than not turning on the lights to stop it from growing so rampantly or is this just a normal phase for a ~month old SW tank?

theyre called diatoms. they make a shell out of silcates. u probably used tap water, it happens, let it pass, hopefully you have no fish/inverts yet
i had that a while back but it grew on my rocks and all around the tank. comes back the next day even if i clean it off but i got a magnet cleaner and it never came back.
and i still add water the same way as i did when i had the algae so i dont know what caused it. i add tap water into the tank then conditioner.
