Brown algae vs green

Ok I have a friend that has green algae growing in his tank and all I can do is grow brown... Why wont I grow green cause then I wouldnt mind it... But the brown looks like ish.... So whats the deal?

I'm not positive but from my experience brown is caused more from sun light an green more from the tank lights.

From what I have seen plecos tend to eat brown and not green algae. Could it be your friend has a more active pleco or maybe you dont have one? Could be that your brown algae is out competing the green for nitrates and thats not happening to your friends tank

I have no clue whats happpening in my friends tank but he has prolly bout a 4 or 5 inch plec and I have a 7 or 8. But I have a 220 and he has a 75. But therw is no sunlight hitting either of our tanks so thata what I dnt get I mean I know I got a biggee tank but he eats jus as much as he did in the other tank.... Like he will search for an hour n then sit for a while

I mean my plec eats jus as much as he did in my 55.... He used to have my 55 like spotless

More light, more current and more aeration helps Green Algae win more competition against Brown Algae.
