When I set up my tank I painted the back glass black. This stops any sunlight and the tank has a canopy. All the nice grey river rocks looked great. Had them piled into lots of caves for my cichlids and siliconed together. Now they are covered in a dark algae making the tank quite dark. I run a 4ft & 2ft growlight for a few hrs morning & night. I run two 2000L powerhead canister filters. I use an Algone satchet in the filters but this hasn't seemed to helped. Any ideas??

Is the algae only at the rocks? Thenyou can take them up and scrub it off.
It is anyhow many fishes who eats algae: Otocinclus, SAE, applesnails etc. In some cases you can turn the light off for some days and the algae is gon. I did that to cyanobacteria and they did not reappeard.

brown algae usally appears with a new setup once its well establised it wont come back youll have to clean it by hand wait for a month you dont want do it twice

i just looked at your pics if its the mixed african tank you dont need a grow light for that single sword plant that room should provide enogh reflective uv theyre a low light plant use a reg stick the grow light encourages green algae
