brown algae

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i heard bristlenose plecos are good for brown algae. if you dont want a new fish maybe a uv sterilizer and/or less lighting during the day.

Cut down on the amount you feed, boost the frequency of water changes, and check your filtration rating to the bio-load of the tank and size of the tank. Brown algae is, for the most part, diatoms and detritis. Gravel washing and the above will cut it's occurrence dramatically.

If you don't have any snail eaters, add some malaysian trumpet snails. They'll take care of the brown algae and aerate your substrate. They're also livebearing snails so you won't see those ugly jelly egg masses all over your tank.
