I'm starting to notice "Brown Algae" in my 29 Gal. tank on the bubble wands and some on the artificial plants. I didn't have it until I added the air pump and wands. I perform regular water changes, filter with 2 HOB filters, and have a plecostomus...is this an indication of a problem with the quality of the water?

Probably not. You may be keeping the light on too long.

Possibly to much light but plecos like the brown algae

Thanks! I didn't think about the light...I have it on a timer for @ 12.5 hours. It's a T8 10000K 18W single bulb. Is that too long?

With Brown algae, decreasing the amount of light will actually have the reverse effect as that will inhibit the growth of green algae and/or plants which would outcompete the brown algae for nutrients. New tanks are prone to brown algae (diatoms) as silicates leech into the water from silicone, substrate etc, it will usually die off on it's own after a few weeks but the pleco will also eat it.

This article explains in more detail http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/algae.htm#brown

PS Otto's are great for getting rid of brown algae, but you shouldn't just get them for that reason alone, remember they still need to be fed after they get rid of the brown algae, and they will increase the bio-load of your tan.

Thanks SCGeordie! Good link...I also read that Otto's have some acclimation issues. My Pleco is full grown at @ 8", so, I think I'll just let him do his thing.
