I got 2 brown bull head from a friend a week ago from his tank. So decided to put them in my 20 gallon predator tank temporarily. A few days later I noticed that 1 of their caudal fins was getting eaten off by the other bullhead. I have just quarantined the injured bullhead into a 10 gallon tank on his own. Does anyone have any advice as to what I can additionally do to help the injured bullhead?

20 gallon long predator tank stock (I know it is overstocked):
1 Channel Catfish 6.5"
1 Sun Catfish 4.5"
2 Brown Bullhead 5.5"
1 Painted Turtle 3"
1 Bluegill x Green Sunfish Hybrid 2"

I know the tank is overstocked by a lot, but that is not the issue I am trying to solve right now. The 2 Bullhead I have were kept in an unfiltered 20 gallon tank for a few months, so at least my tank is filtered. Just have the issue of the one picking on the other.

These 2 bullhead have been living together since they were about half an inch long, but they were only moved to another tank when this started happening.

It doesnt matter if they live together since they were baby fry, there territorial instinct will kick in no matter what and they will still grow to be extremely predatorial. Regardless of if they seem like "buddies" also that channel cat will literally get as big as your tank as soon as you go to get a new tank. Id say to upgrade immediately. If not give the fish away to a supportable home or something. I know you think they will take a while but it wont. Before you know it they wont be able to turn around and they will kill eachother by then

Not trying to flame you the only way to fix that problem is upgrading that tank and lighten up your stock.
