The water in my tank always seems to be a kind of brown/cloudy colour, never seems to clear up. Stocking is in my sig, running an APS 2000 lph external filter and a Fluval 2 internal filter. Tank has 4 decent sized pieces of bogwood but even removing these for a while didn't clear the water up properly. I'm doing 50% water changes per week. Any ideas on how to clear the water? Driving me crazy!

Sounds like you need more mechanical filtration. You can try adding another cannister filter with just polishing pads or an Ac 110 with just sponges. I'd avoid all the chemical filtration, carbon could cause hole in the head in cichlids.

Do you have readings you can post? It's good to look at ammonia, nitrite, nitrate levels to help exclude bacteria / algae. Also, do you use plant lights, do you keep lights on all the time, is the tank getting direct sunlight, and how long has it been cloudy (few days, few weeks?)

if you can see things floating in the water column, you might need to bump up your mechanical filtration. depending on your lighting schedule and what other lights hittiing the tank, a UV sterilizer will clear it up. and also posting your water chemistry might help also
