Brown Fuzz on Wood

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Black brush algae? Search up the images and see if it looks like yours. You could scrub the wood with a brush, just be careful about chemicals.

If the stuff gets out of hand, and you have a larger tank and suitable tankmates, get a SAE, an active and nice fish which munches on BBA.

Probably black brush algae. Usually indicates prolonged nitrates in the tank, and can be difficult to eradicate. True Siamese algae eaters supposedly eat it, but mine never have in the past. There also some topical treatments made with Prime ( I think) but a search here on MFK would be invaluable. My best remedy was keeping my nitrate levels at almost 0 and I eventually went away.
