Hope you know that Browns can live for 8yrs and feed primarily on insects; large Browns feed mostly on fish and crayfish which i noticed that you had one in your tank but they feed on the surface more than any other trout out there.The difference between farm and wild it that the farm raised are not as colorful and their fins are torn up by constant rubbing against the concrete raceways, yours is definately wild!! The world record is 35lbs 15oz so i hope you know what you are getting yourself into(loads of luck) There is one thing in common with all trout species is that there is a reliable source of cold water, the preferred temp is 60-65, preferred current speed is slow to medium. I have had trout for a couple of years and learned alot this is what i have learned from Brown trout and if you have any more questions please feel free to ask, trout is definately a hard species to keep if you don't have the right equipment and knowledge, so the best of luck to you and keep us posted will you!!!

Actually the trout pass away a while ago, found him in the morning with a Crayfish in his mouth. I wasnt planning on keeping a trout its just something that happened after foolishly thinking that I could help it somehow, but I know better now to just cut and release (if ill prepared)...a lesson learned too late. Either way it was a beautiful fish and a memorable catch, one that Ill shall never forget...

At least you know now what to do next time you catch a trout! And you now should have an ample amount of information from this excellent forum for your next trout. Your bass it looks in excellent form, nice timing to get that yawn shot by the way, how long have you had it?
Browns are opportunistic feeders feeding on small fish, frogs and insects, they have a high diet which incudes insect larvae, pupae, nymphs and crustaceans, similar diet to most of the trout family=Rainbow,Cutthroat,Golden,Bull,Artic grayling,Pink salmon,Chinook,Coho,sockeye and Atlantic salmon.

Thanks, I caught the Largemouth on October 16, 2007. At first the LMB would not eat, glad that changed. I even hand fed it a few times. I turned my pond into a bait pond. I buy 100 feeders for $15, and let them grow to a certain size. Every few days I pick out five large feeders for my LMB. Its a good system that works, and that way I know he/she is getting the best and not sick or injured fish. Its funny because the LMB wont touch the Crayfish. It was the same story when I had my Smallmouth. I am beginning to wonder if most predators only choose to eat Crayfish because they dont have a choice, as a last resort.
