My freshwater aquarium tank was doing fine previously. And right now I could see many small brown worms, which look like earthworm start growing in my tank. They could be seen on the gravel and also the filter area. They have a "sucker" structure at one end.

What is this worm?
Are they harmful to my fish? I have some guppies in my tank, as well as shrimp and snails.

Someone please advice. Thanks!

Leeches

i guess its a leech?... but u can try 2 click a photo n show it 2 us... maybe v cud identify it....

I moved the fish and most of the old water to an empty tank and sanitized all the infested stuff. I don't see any in my 35 gal pond. I did take some to my fish store and all they could suggest was that it may be some sort of larvae and to use copper. These things look just like an earthworm and can inch along using what appears to be a sucker head or swim in s curves when harassed, and curl up in a ball. They can stretch real long or shrink tiny. About 1 cm when resting. They were under the gravel and in the filter housing, not free swimming. They don't like light. I haven't found any like pictures online yet. I thought planaria or Spirostomum, but the pictures are too magnified to tell if that is it. Thanks for any help.

Only one way to tell if they're leeches...
