Browning on leaves?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
when'd you put them in your aquarium? what kind of set up do you have? co2 or none? do you get good lighting?

i found that when my plants were new there was a period of adjustment where the leaves turned brown but as i pruned them they grew back greener than ever.

They could be getting too much light, not enough light or might not be getting enough nutrients. My swords starting browning after I buried the roots, so I had to add small river rocks to my sand tank for them to grow properly. They're doing fine now.

sometimes plants just melt as well, and old leaf will die back and new leafs that are grown FOR your particular setup will emerge
however, what are your lights and tank size and substrate and all that?

trim off the leaf btw, it promotes new growth anyways

well my amazon swords r attached to the driftwood, my substrate is gravel and i can't find any ferts or root tabs in my country. My tank size is 40g and the lighs r 47 watts fluorescent lights. There r smaller leaves that r still green but the bigger ones r browning. If I understood well I think that i should prune the brown leaves right?

Yeah You can. I like to let mine die all the way back when the Plant is fairly new. Ebay is a good place for root tabs.IMG555.jpg

Here is my sword when I first put it in. it browned so much that I thought I would have to throw it away. over the course of about 4 Monthes I split the plant into 3 all are the size of this one. another month or so I will split them again and have 6 plants this size, about 24" from root to crown. Also leave any runners on as long as possible.IMG868.jpgIMG870.jpg
