hi everyone! it's the first time i post in this section of the site. i read and can't find info on my problem.

i have a 130 gal piranhas aquarium. i have 200W of light and it's planted with anubia, crypto, java moss and java furn. i also have an amazone and a plant i dunno the name but it looks like a demesurum (do it's not one).

i have the same problem on all my plants. there seems to be a brownish layer of algae on the leaves. its like many brown spots all over the leaves.

i light the tank 11 hours a day and my parametres seem ok. i have 2 ancistrus, many snails, 2 algae eaters i dunno the name (looks like octocinclus, but bigger) and 4 crosso siamensis.

i had like 2-3 times a week some complete fertilizer with iron, manganese, and everything.

sorry no pics, i'll try to get some 2night

any help would be more than welcomed, since no local pet store been able to help me.

tanx

ok i understand that its hard to answer anything without pics, so here they are.

so this is an overview of the tank

this is the pant i told you ressembles a demesurum but i dunno what it is exactly. you can see that the newest leaves are green, but the older ones are brown (it's like a layer of algae or something)

it doesn't show that much on the pics, but in real, it doesn't look nice to have a brownish plant with some nice green leaves on the extrimities.

this is my sword that never grew more than it is now (about 9inches). it makes a lot of new leaves, but they don't grow high. they die after a little

same thing for my anubia. makes new leaves, but become spotted with dark kind of layer and old leaves die, so never gets bigger, just stays the same...

another plant i dunno the name, but same thing. brown, black layer on old leaves so lots of new branches, but never rises up to the surface as i think it should...à

my not so well looking java fern (microsorum right?)

so i hope now people can help me! i really wanna get better in aquatic plants, but im a bit exhausted since my local pet store couldn't help me with all their tricks that didn't work....:irked:

so please give me a hand!

You could experiment and try a couple of things.

I would cut the lighting to about 8 hrs a day. No more is really needed. Anymore is just asking algae issues. This is a must

You need CO2 in there for growth. Tank that size DIY setup is harder to set at a constant rate so a pressurized system is needed. This will help alot in growth and with the right ferts will knock down algae. There are also liquid version but I have never tried them so I can comment on this.

More circulation. You can never have enough. This will help distribute the ferts and CO2 around the tank.

I switched over to dry ferts cost me $50.00 and I probably have enough for more than year. I'm dosing 3 tanks 55g 10g. I use the EI method.

I would add a couple of octocinclus to the tank the help alot and eat alot more algae than the SAE's. In my 55g I have 6 of them and 3 SAE's.

I had the same problem you are having when I started my tanks in Jan. After going on 8hrs-9hrs of light including CO2 and dosing ferts the tank is alot healthier.
