Brownish water??

I have had this problem for like a month now,i do reg partial water changes,about a quarter of the water once a week.My tank was overstocked about 2 monthes ago,so i thinned it out alot,down to 3 fish.2 cats and a 4 inch Midas.My water will look pretty clear after a water change,but by the next day it is cloudy again.What could be causing this???

do you clean the gravel when you do a water change? if there is a lot of debris (poop, uneaten food) in the substrate, the fish are stirring it up and getting it out into the water cloumn, making the tank cloudy and brown.

You use dechlorinator right? Use Prime, its da bomb. lol.

It is bare bottom(strictly for that purpose)no i dont use dechlorinator,but i will go get some Prime.see how that works,thanks guys!!!

Any wood in the tank??? Sometimes that will dye the water.
