Beautiful markings on that beast!

Very nice looking pleco! Its odd that an uncommon pleco like this would be caught; its normally the commons that are released

I think there are more species than "common" plecos that are released into the waters. Five species are reported to be reproducing in United States.

A little weird though don't you think? A much more manageable species that isn't sold very often. I wonder how these got into the waterways; was it a flooded fish farm or did someone release a group of them?

I think many were released by the ignorant wealthy. The kind of people who go to a store and buy the most expensive items just because they can. When they realize they bit off more than they can chew or get bored they "throw it away".

I've seen such cases before from cats to cars.

Yup! It doesn't matter if an animal is expensive or not, they can be discarded. Someone released a savannah cat (serval x domestic cat hybrid) in the streets recently and there have few incidents of wolfdogs being released in the wild. Savannah cats and wolfdogs are usually very expensive animals. Not too long ago, I got a call from a concerned farmer about a Wagyu bull harassing and breeding his registered Angus cows. Wagyu cattle are not very common breed and super expensive but apparently this bull's owner don't want him and the bull is on his own. I had to pick up the bull and sold him to a hobby farmer that needs a bull that throws small calves. I got his daughter when the bull was living on my ranch and bred to two heifers of mine.
