Evening all.

Even though i am strill waiting for my Black Wolf, something new has cropped up. I have been considering changing a few things in the tank anyway and having already bought one brycon, I was very interested to see Brycon hilarii on the stock list of one of the UK's better stockists. Having done some searching, they look very interesting- Dorado-esque yet not quite as big. So i was wondering what sort of expereince people had with them? aggressive, skittish, Gregarious, soletary, captive size etc? Is there anything i should avoid when keepnig them?

My hope is that i can mix my Brycon Melanopterus with the Hilarii but I'm not sure, hence the question.

Thanks.

Do you have any brycon pictures that you could post?I have two brycons currently but have not been able to determine just which ones they are and I have'nt been able to find much reference or ID info on this group.

i'm pretty sure that the Melanopterus gains colour as it grows- my one looks identical to the above but larger ones seem to gain more colour on their tail and head.

The two that I have are similar to the Hilarii.

i think theyre like brycon dentex, meaning they CAN BE worse than dorados in terms of aggression.
they get around 16" i think...

dentex are evil and i must say, even my Melanoperus has a bit of an attitude. However, I'm sick and tried of my pink Tail Chalceus slamming themselves headlong into the side of the tank so fancied new pred Charcins that weren't as stupid. But i guess fish interlect is all reletive ;)

Brycon Detex are quite cool though. Dentex, Tat, Gold wolves and black wolf...

That would be cool.

Wildwoods have them in stock atm but they're tiny (<3") however they have got me interested. i've put requests in for larger Hilarii and Dentex plus a few other 'toothy' charcins so will see what comes up.
