brycon hilarii ?

Alex, I have a couple of those that were sold as Brycon dentex from Ecuador. Their jaw structure is unlike any Brycon species I've ever seen. There's some speculation that they may actually be an Oligosarcus species, as they do seem to resemble O. jenynsii and O. hepsetus.

Brycon hilarii has a very dorado-like snout, unlike the upturned mouth of that specimen.

Hi Jesse, These are from Argentina. The snout does look different. I did some searching, couldnt find the exact sp....New???????? maybe??????:nilly:

Alex, there have been several discussions concerning a similar fish on another site, but I don't believe the ID was ever resolved. I've also seen threads where a similar looking fish was marketed in Asia as Oligosarcus hepsetus. It's a mystery.

About a year ago, I even plunked down $120 on a used copy of Jacque Gery's out-of-print Characoids of the World (1977) in hopes that it would help me ID the fish, but it wasn't much help. :( Another mystery--where is that "Edit" button?
