I think my honey gourami has built a bubble nest. I'm in a bit of a panic because it's in my community tank which is far too deep for the fry if there are any. How do I tell if it contains Eggs? And if it does does anyone have any ideas for how I can safeguard the fry, I'm wondering about floating a Tupperware box under the nest but am not sure what else I'd need to do? I do have two female (well they have the stripe) yellowed honeys in the tank and one has been looking a bit fat.

Tbh you should leave it be and now you know you have a male for sure.:)

Yes :) it's difficult to tell isn't it

I personally don't see anything but the nest and if you really wanted to let them spawn you will have to remove the other fish with the exception of the females and if the male looks after the fry once he collects the eggs the female would have to be removed thats is the spawn like Betta not sure though.

Okay, thank you. I do have another tank that is set up as a hospital tank for one of my guppies, so I could use that in the future

If you want to spawn them yes leave the pair in that tank alone. You will need to start some insuforia or green water to feed the fry. This may sound bad but Duck weed is a great plant for them to build the bubble nest. You will want the tank at about 80F and the tank will need a lid. The fry are prone to breathing deseases if they take in cold air. The male takes the fry to the surface for air for the first few days of their life. If you can see them once they are swimming on their own the male can be removed as well. Keep the lid on the tank for at least 3 weeks to give them a good start. You will also want to get some golden pearl fry food get the smallest they make to feed the fry until they can regular fry powder. Water changes are good but wait untill you can make sure you do not suck out any fry. I hope this helps.
One more thing Gouramis are easy to sex The females have a rounded dorsal and anal fin. The males have pointed dorsal and anal fins. Good luck if you do decide to breed them. Oh one other thing you will want none to very little surface disturbance when they spawn and have the bubble nest. Gouramis are air breathers so do worry about them dying without a filter going for awile.
