is it normal to have foam, or bubbles on top of the tank? i saw it this morning. im planning on doing a water change later. all help greatly appreciated.

few bubbles yes, foam no. you need something to break the surface of the water. i.e. powerhead, protein skimmers, or a sprayer bar. more dissolved oxygen will be the result.
also foam is ugly and can start to smell!

i have a rio powerhead, i have never seen this before. is this b/c of the motoro?
thank you.

it could be there's a lot of reasons for $hit to build up on the surface..
I have 2 Motoros

my tank has:

1200 GPH powerhead

High pressure sprayer bar

and 1 Hydor light/Aerator

= crazy rapid water movement on the surface! like a river! kinda like where Motoros live ;)

lol! well there's the problem! lol!!!! put it closer to to the problem areas!

i keep my power head in the corner of my tank on a diagonal angle.

if u know trigonometry/Pythagoras u realize if u place the flow on the hypotenuse of a triangle it will be on a greater path covering more area!

this may be hard to picture! think of ur tank as two triangles together. they form a rectangle or square. the center line is the hyponteuse between the two triangles. they share the same hypnteuse! thats where u want the flow of the power head to go!

or u buy a load of aerators! lol they look nice in the tank with the bubbles and stuff.....

protein skimmer is pointless.....

have you added anything to the tank? ( mela or pima fix etc...)
thick dense foam or collection of bubbles? hate to see you waste your money on something you may not need.... how about a few pictures???

and for the record adding a few airstones will do the same as a powerhead on the surface of a tank.... you dont need 10k a hour worth of flow...
